A dropped pacifier goes back into a pocket with keys and old receipts, or it goes in this. The pod is laminated canvas, so the inside wipes out and nothing soaks in, and it holds one or two spares alongside the one currently in rotation. It washes in a machine and survives a dishwasher, which between them cover both ways a parent is likely to clean it.
The lamination is the difference. A plain fabric pouch absorbs whatever a used pacifier brings with it, while this wipes out with the same wipe you used on the pacifier.

The argument for carrying a spare falls apart if the spare is dirtier than the one that fell. Keeping it closed in its own pod is what makes the second one usable.
