This is for the stage after a carrier: one to about four years, up to 45 pounds, for a child who walks most of the way and then does not. The Sola is a padded seat on a single shoulder strap. It sits on either shoulder, the strap is split and padded to spread the weight, and the seat surface is non-slip so a tired toddler stays put. Folded, it goes in a diaper bag.
Most soft carriers stop around 35 pounds. A three-year-old at a zoo or an airport is well past that and still not going to walk the last mile, and the alternative is carrying them on a hip for twenty minutes.
Swap sides when one starts to ache. A single strap concentrates weight, so being able to switch is not a luxury on a long day.
The non-slip surface and back support give a child something to sit on rather than something to be bundled into. They can see out, hold on, and get down when they want to.
Compact enough to travel with rather than to plan around. Two buckles set the length, so the same one fits both parents without a rethread.
